They have hundreds of books and periodicals which their members have placed on indefinite loan or we acquired. Thay also have all the old county court books, death records, wills, and have abstracted over 4,000 probates. One of their committees is currently abstracting obituaries from the Council Bluffs Nonpareil.
Iowa Genealogical Society
The Iowa Genealogical Society (IGS) is a nonprofit educational organization, founded in 1965. The IGS maintains an extensive research library, open to the public for a fee. The IGS publishes a bimonthly newsletter and a quarterly booklet, titled the "Hawkeye Heritage." In cooperation with the county chapters, the society publishes collections of genealogical records, such as census, church, marriages, births, deaths, cemeteries, naturalizations, probate and wills and newspaper extractions.
The IAGenWeb Archives is a continuing effort to make public domain records available through the Internet. Examples of county-based records for the Archives include state census, vital records (births, deaths, marriages), court records, land records, church records, military records, local history and other public-access records of genealogial value.
Iowa Vital Stats
This bureau records all vital events occurring in the state such as birth, death, and marriage, and has an interstate exchange agreement with all of the other states. The bureau registers approximately 100,000 events and issues about 85,000 certified copies annually.

The State Library of Iowa serves the State legislature, government agencies, librarians, and the citizens of Iowa.
